Ceramics and Biomaterials Research Group

1. Introduction

Ceramics and Biomaterials Research Group (CBM) is a research group funded by Ton Duc Thang University. The research directions of CBM focus on new research in the various forms of nanoparticles, nanostructures, nanomaterials, new synthesis methods and processes, for example as chemical or physical methods, modified polyol methods, their related practical properties and applications for medicine and biology (nanomedicine), energy, environment, society, and life. The crucial issues of the size, the shape, the composition, the morphology, the structure, the related phenomena and properties of the prepared particles in the nano/microscale ranges are very important to their promising practical properties and applications for contributing to tackle urgent global-scale energy, environment issues. We aim to develop the new research directions of specific functional nanomaterials with the high potential of practical applications at Ton Duc Thang University, Vietnam.

2. Mission and vision

Our mission is to make the significant key contributions to the new, simple, and efficient synthesis methods and processes of the prepared nanomaterials with their high practical properties and applications for our society and life.

3. Research topics

• Materials science, ceramics, and nanomaterials for energy conversion and storage for capacitor, battery, and fuel cells. Nano metal and oxide nanomaterials for energy, environment, and life.

• New biomaterials, tissue engineering, and repair biosignal processing, bioimaging.

• New magnetic nanomaterials for spintronics.

• New nanomaterials doped with rare earth.

• New functional glasses by sol-gel processes.

• New amorphous nanomaterials doped with rare earth.

• Magnetic iron oxide nanoparticles for rapid bacteria capture, magnetic separation and electrochemical detection.

• Metal and semiconductor nanostructures for Surface-enhanced Raman scattering and surface plasmon resonance applications.

• Electron microscopy and microanalysis.

• Modelling and simulation of solid state structures, materials and devices: Emphasis is on the properties of inorganic solids at all length scales down to nanostructures.
